1. Results of the supervision and counselling work done by the Consumer Protection Board in December 2009

In December consumers complained more over different services. The number of complaints over commerce has decreased. An internet trading and construction services were those subject fields that worried consumers the most in December.

Travelling and therefore problems with tourism services were still an actual problem and one of the reasons that complaints over tourism has decreased is the website bookinghouse.ee.

The consumers presented the board with 152 appeals (that’s two less than in November), including 87 about commerce and 66 about services. The consumers and entrepreneurs made 419 written inquiries in December. 108 of them were about commerce, 200 about different services and rest of them were about commercials, food products etc.

Over the CPB information and counselling phone 6 201 707 there were 1106 cases of counselling conducted in December. Problems with industrial goods were presented in 503 cases, problems with services in 437 cases. Calls regarding foodstuff were made in December on 33 cases. 27 calls were related to commercials.

The Consumer Protection Board issued in December 301 inspection reports to retail and service companies. During the check up 2 injunction and 65 misdemeanour decisions in a total amount of 46 360 kroons were made.

As mentioned before, the number of complaints over tourism services has decreased. Consumers turned to the Consumer Centre of Estonia because of the airline tickets selling website www.bookinghouse.ee. The main problem is that consumers has been announced that the flight was not going to take place and therefore the consumers want to get their money back. Apparently the Bookinghouse does not return to consumers their money in full. According to their website the Bookinghouse is the biggest cheap flight tickets and related products offered website in Baltic. In CPB´s estimation the website www.bookinghouse.ee has many other violations to valid demands (the address of the company is missing, also there is no correct price list etc).

The Consumer Centre of Estonia is solving Bookinghouse´s problems with the Consumer Centre of Lithuania.
